ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

An historic Black Church rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are part of a connectional global denomination of local church societies ministering under the doctrinal Reformation of Methodism.

St Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church has served the community of Harrington as a local church congregation since 1830 A.D. Our ministry is housed in a modest historically designated church building located on West Mispillion Street in the town of Harrington a small community in the southern tip of Kent County, Delaware.
Our congregation predominantly consist of senior members many of whom have a long standing affiliation with the St. Paul AME Church. The church membership has dwindled over the years as persons have transitioned in various ways and are no longer physically associated with our Church. We lack a core group of young adults that are needed to help grow and sustain the ministry beyond its current status. Our goal is to actively develop programing designed to reach, engage and attract younger persons and families to our ministry.

A Global Witness of Local Connectional Church Societies

THE MISSION

The Mission of the AME Church is to minister to the social, spiritual and physical development of all people.

THE VISION

At every level of the Connection and in every local church, the AME Church shall engage in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society out of which the AME Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost and to serve the needy. It is also the duty of the Church to continue to encourage all members to become involved in all aspects of church training.

OUR ROOTS

The African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) is a dynamic organism founded over two hundred years that has stayed true to our vision and mission while evolving in our praxis and paradigms. We were born out of a theologically and sociologically redemptive need that transcends Wesleyan doctrine. The AME Church has been at the forefront in the global community confronting political, economic, educational, and health atrocities while combatting racism, sexism, classim, and a
myriad of other assaults on all people. The church has
attested to the biblical commitment of liberation,
reconciliation and justice while maintaining a doctrinal
body of believers. Please click the link below to read more about our Church’ Denominational History.

St. Paul Ministry Initiatives

St. Paul AME Church is expanding its ministry program to have greater Social Impact in the community.  We welcome individuals who would like to join with us in making a difference in the lives of men and women who are in need of the various ministry programs and services that will be developed over the coming months.
